Integrative Multi-System Psychiatric Assessment

Counseling Image Takashi Matsuki, M.D. Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist Office Image

Psychological well-being of a person is known to be structured in multiple inter-related systems including medical, psychiatric, psychological, spiritual, cultural, social, behavioral, and lifestyle. Since he has been trained in traditional psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and primary care medicine, Dr. Matsuki always works within multiple systems to resolve issues affecting the patient with a well-developed, multi-system plan by comprehensively understanding those issues.

Dr. Matsuki’s initial evaluation usually takes one or two sessions, each of which lasts about an hour. His in-person evaluation is comprehensive, including in-depth exploration of patient’s current condition, present stressors, medical history, mental health history, and life history, among others. It is often recommended to also include diagnostic testing, so that any medical issue that may manifest itself as a psychiatric illness will be ruled out, or nutritional deficiencies can be examined for treatment by using supplements and changing the lifestyle.

Once Dr. Matsuki’s complete assessment is done for the patient, a personalized treatment plan will be provided with his recommendations regarding frequency and modes of treatment (such as medication management, supplement, management of underlying medical condition, psychotherapy, exercise program, diet modification, and lifestyle modification). If it is determined by Dr. Matsuki that a treatment outside the scope of his practice is required for the patient, he ensures that the patient will be referred to appropriate specialists.

Medication Management

In most cases, Dr. Matsuki selects the lowest doses of medication possible, based on his advanced training on and vast knowledge of medication options available, to restore the balanced functioning. Dr. Matsuki is always willing to cooperate with the patients to create a treatment program, so that a mutual consent on the program is achieved. For instance, some patients may receive treatment only with medication management, but other patients may receive treatment by combining medication and psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy

It may be common knowledge that, even if medications can relieve the severity of symptoms, only a part of the issues may be addressed by them. In order to achieve the most successful result, it is important to combine medication management with ongoing psychotherapy. Also, if you’re willing to know yourself and improve your life, psychotherapy may be the best way for having a safe, confidential, and supportive therapeutic environment. With specialized training, Dr. Matsuki is capable of assisting patients with a wide range of psychological disorders, so that they could understand and resolve issues involving complicated, deep-seated emotional and relationship matters based on unconscious processes in most cases. This will result in reduced symptoms and mitigated distress. If you seek a greater sense of fulfillment or experience a loss of meaning in life, psychotherapy could be of invaluable benefit to you.
